Gallery Exhibit Opening: Weavers and Spinners Society of Austin

Date

Texas weavers love our deep traditions in functional craft and art. Weaving is an art form that sprouted from the skills employed by those turning fiber into yarn, yarn into cloth, and cloth into useful, practical, necessary, and often time, lovely and expressive household and wearable items.

The Weavers and Spin261x261_symlink_160816_texasfolklife_weaversandspinnersners Society of Austin, WSSA, will share the beauty and the process of weaving at the:

Texas Folklife Gallery
1708 Houston St
Austin, TX 78756
FREE and open to the public

The exhibit shows the works by guild members of the Spinners and Weavers Society of Austin.  Handwoven art pieces and garments, felted pieces and basket weaving woven from a wide variety of materials all with a Texas accent.

The exhibit opening on Sunday October 16th (2pm-5pm) at the Texas Folklife Gallery will feature weaving and looming demonstrations, and a variety of pieces made by Weavers & Spinners Society of Austin members will be available for purchase.  Light refreshments and drinks will also be served.

Started in the 1970s, WSSA is a non-profit dedicated to promoting textile arts: weaving, spinning, dyeing, felting, basketry & more. Members use traditional & new techniques to create wearable art, fine household items, & purely artistic expressions of thread, ribbon, wire, natural fibers, and other filaments.
